As a graduation project, worked on effect of hydroxide sources on emission and morphology of europium doped yttrium hydroxide crystals. After understanding the effect, started working on facile synthesis of the crystals with -the best colleague I have- Tuğrul Güner. Procedure of synthesis involves a reactive base as a hydroxide source via help of the source crystals were synthesized even in 5 minutes. The results were gathered with various dopant concentration and time, yet time trials were carried out, the main purpose was finding a way to synthesize crystals in a facile way and in a short time. Also to support the experimental results, theoretical calculations were carried out by Hasan Şahin’s research group. Paper is submitted to Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology. .

Currently, developing sorbent materials for the lithium ion. Methods are used in the process are precipitation polymerization and electrospinning for powder and nanofibers respectively. Both methods include crown ethers known for specific metal complexes. Projects are aimed at recovering lithium from geothermal brine, so sorbent materials should be water insoluble. To achieve this crosslinking of an acidic monomer is carried out via reaction with EGDMA for powder material. For the nanofibers, different compositions of polymers are mixed in aqueous or absolute ethanol media and electrospinning is carried out.

Recently, started helping a Ph.D. colleague for synthesizing gold nanoparticles to obtain a strain sensor. The synthetic route contains aqueous and organic phases and microphase. After mixing the solutions, to acquire nanoparticles microphase extraction is fulfilled and reduced via NaBH4. A polymeric matrix is achieved in order to avoid aggregation of gold nanoparticles and tensile test is applied.
